Kathleen “Kathy” (Melling) Melanson, 67, of Ludlow, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Daughter to the late Harold and Elaine (Edwards) Melling, Kathy was born in Malden, MA on October 18, 1949.
Kathy was a longtime resident of Ludlow. She also spent many years in Virginia raising her children. She worked most of her career as a hair stylist where she pursued her passion for cosmetology. She also spent her life as a community servant doing as much as she could to positively impact those around her. Kathy was a very active participant in her church while living in Virginia as well a volunteer as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Kathy helped work with her children’s Cub Scout program and had volunteered occasionally with the Girl Scout program as well. She was an avid member with her children’s PTA during their grade school years. Kathy participated as a coach in Malden for girls Street Hockey as well as for Little League Baseball.
Kathy is survived by her loving and adoring husband Kenneth Melanson Sr. of Ludlow where they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 24, 2017. She is also survived by her two sons Kenneth Melanson Jr. and his partner Jennifer of West Springfield and Keith Melanson and his wife Rachael of Ludlow; a daughter Krystle Melanson and her partner Kristen of Easthampton and her beloved grandchildren Lauren, Anthony, Victoria, Keith Jr. and predeceased by Joseph. She also leaves her siblings Thomas Melling and wife Theresa of Ludlow, Michael Melling of Lynnfield, Phyllis Ka of Long Beach, Judi-Ann Doyle and husband Billy of Lynnfield and Linda Angiolillo of Everett. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Maureen Colameta whom also passed battling cancer. Kathy also leaves her nieces and nephews Erica, Thomas, Robert, Brandon, Brianna, Brittany, Shannon, Christina, Jennifer, Ben, Denise, Paul and Michael

She was certainly very special, and I am honored to have known her and very blessed that she was present at my wedding since she was just like a second "big sister" to the Everett man I married. Kathy will be sorely missed by all.

I always remember how nurturing and kind and funny Mrs. Melanson was to me when playing little league and street hockey. Great memories. RIP..

I had the pleasure of working with Kathy during the 2010 Census and found her to be a dedicated and committed worked who consistently brought a ray of sunshine to a very gruesome task. Heaven has gained an angel that I had the pleasure of getting to know while she was earthbound. May you rest in peace gracious lady!

There will be a Celebration of Life Ceremony held at the Red Rose Pizzeria located at 1060 Main Street Springfield, MA from the hours of 1-3PM on Sunday September 17, 2017
