Obituary

Julie Ann (Flynn) Rooney, 74, of King St., died peacefully Sunday, October 24 at her home. Born in Holyoke, MA March 25, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Michael & Mary (Shaugnessey) Flynn. Educated in Holyoke schools, she was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Married to William R. Rooney on August 29, 1953, they made their home and raised their family in Ludlow. Julie was the co-owner of the Ludlow Register and most recently served as it’s news editor. A communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, she was a member and past officer of its Ladies Guild, and was a church greeter. Julie Ann was also civic minded, and loved the community she lived in, active in many organizations in the Town of Ludlow. She will long be remembered for her hard work and dedication to the community. A member of the Town Democratic Committee, she was an elected town meeting member, was a member and past president of the Ludlow Mothers Club, a volunteer at Hubbard Memorial Library, and was a member of the Randall Boy’s & Girl’s Club Family. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Red Hat Society. She leaves her loving husband of 51 years William R. Rooney, a son Atty. William E. Rooney and his wife Laura, a daughter Maureen Rooney-Murray and her husband Craig, all of Ludlow. Devoted grandmother of Michael and Ryan Murray, Alyssa, Casey and Kathleen Rooney. A sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia and John Day of Ludlow. Her sister Marie Daley died in 2000. Julie leaves many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. Her funeral will be Thursday, October 28 at 8:45 a.m. from the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, followed by a concelebrated Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, East St., Ludlow at 10 a.m. Rites of committal will follow in Island Pond Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Randall Boy’s and Girl’s Club, 91 Claudia’s Way, Ludlow, MA 01056.
