Obituary

George A. Sergentanis, 75, of Longmeadow passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born June 7, 1940 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Aristides and Eva (Perakis) Sergentanis. George was a graduate of Technical High School and Western New England College.

George was Founder, Chairman and CEO of Northeast Contractors, Inc., a major specialty site work contractor and consulting firm. Northeast Contractors performs site work on many large projects throughout New England and New York State, including the past project at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots. He was highly respected in his industry and had been a guest lecturer at both MIT and Harvard.

George had a passion for history and was a Fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society of Boston, Massachusetts; the oldest historical society in the United States. He was also a member of the Woodstock Vermont Historical Society. George was an active supporter of local cultural organizations serving as a longtime member of the Trustees of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, as well as, a member of the Society of William Rice of the Springfield Museums. George and his wife Irene were one of the founding couples of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Luke in East Longmeadow.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Irene (Kapetan) Sergentanis of Longmeadow; his daughter Calli Kelly and her husband Timothy of Pine Island, MN and his son Jason Sergentanis and his wife Andrea of Longmeadow. He also leaves two brothers Anthony Sergentanis and his wife Teresa of Springfield and John Sergentanis and his wife Mary of Cedar Grove, NJ and two sisters-in-law Sophie Sergentanis of Longmeadow and Elaine Kapetan of Middletown, CT. George is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Benjamin and Adam Sergentanis and Maria, Christina, Stephanie and Anastasia Kelly. He leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends, including extended family in Greece. Sadly, in addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Manuel Sergentanis. George will be remembered by family, friends and colleagues as a warm, generous and loving man.

Service Information

Funeral services for George will be held Monday, February 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Luke, 400 Prospect St, East Longmeadow, MA. Burial will follow in Longmeadow Cemetery, 34 Williams St. Longmeadow, MA.
