Evelyn (Sorcinelli) Anischik, 86, of Ludlow, MA passed away peacefully on September 12, 2014 after battling a long illness. Born December 19, 1927, at home, to Zaira and Ariego Sorcinelli, both Italian immigrants. Evelyn was one of 7 children.
She worked as a secretary at Monsanto where she met, fell in love with, and married, Michael Anischik on August 13, 1949. Evelyn and Michael went on the have three girls and soon after Evelyn, perhaps partly to get some time to herself, began waitressing nights, including a stint at the Ludlow Country Club where she once waited on Teddy Kennedy. She later learned bookkeeping through a correspondence course that led to her work as a bookkeeper and eventual office manager at Menard and Holmberg, where she spent the rest of her working career, retiring in 1990.
She loved to cook, regularly force feeding her guests and offering: Something to drink; water, tea, coffee, soup? She enjoyed sewing, often making clothes for special occasions, although frequently not finishing until dawn on Easter or Christmas morning. Upon retirement, she and Michael started traveling, including trips to Italy and Las Vegas, where she put her newfound love of gambling to good use with a $14,000 win on the nickel slots. She was also an active member of St. Marys Church and the Ludlow Senior Center and continued to do so until she was no longer able.
She leaves behind her three daughters, Donna Grossman, Jean Wetherell, and Linda Fanion and her husband Stephen; six grandchildren, Joshua, Sally and Adam Grossman, Lisa Wetherell, and Nicholas and Rebecca Fanion; three great-grandchildren, Gabriella Grossman, Parker Grossman-Schoner, and George Grossman; three sisters, Mary Hope, Rita Batista, and Angelina Fiore; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Delores Balducci, and brothers Gino and Angelo Sorcinelli. The family would like to thank the staff at LifeCare Center of Wilbraham for their attentive care of Evelyn in her waning days. May Evelyn finally be at peace in the arms of her husband, dancing the dance the two loved to share, the polka.
