Surrounded by her loving family, Elizabeth E. (Chambers) Meher, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Daughter of the late Raymond and Lillie Mae Chambers, she was born in Opelika, AL on March 17, 1937. A longtime Ludlow resident, she worked as a nurse’s aid at the former Ludlow Hospital for 27 years.
Elizabeth’s greatest joy was her family and her love of God. She enjoyed Christmas, traveling to Virginia Beach, the Smokey Mountains and visiting her family in Alabama.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Alfred F. Meher of Wilbraham, her sons Wayne Meher (Qian) of East Greenbush, NY; Steven Meher (Cheryl) of Monson, Philip Meher (Michele) of Plaistow, NH and her daughter Carol (Venancio) Lambert (Jason) of Monson; her brother Gary Chambers and her sister Marilyn McCarly (James) both of Opelika, AL and her sister Peggy Hicks (James) of Montgomery, AL. She also leaves her 18 beloved grandchildren Haley, Jordan, Sili, Jessica, Candice, Sabrina, John, David, Nicholas, Andrew, Carolyn, Catherine, James, Nathan, Zachary, Matthew, Timothy and Andrew. She also leaves her great-granddaughter Lily. Sadly she was predeceased by her brother Willie and her sisters Lessie, Earlene and Joyce.
I had the pleasure of meeting this exceptional woman earlier this year at an annual dinner event hosted by her daughter, Carol. I am sorry her call from the Lord came before I had the opportunity to get to know her further. She will be greatly missed, my sincere and deepest condolences to all of her loving family.
Visiting hours will be Monday, July 17, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St, Ludlow, MA.
Family and friends may gather for services celebrating Elizabeth’s life Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Bethany Assembly of God, 580 Main St., Agawam, MA. Burial will follow in Island Pond Cemetery, Center St, Ludlow, MA.
