Dominic J. DeCaro, 90, a longtime Ludlow resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Antonio and Antoinetta (Amendola) DeCaro, he was born in West Springfield, MA on April 2, 1927. A graduate of Springfield Trade High School, Dominic proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Topeka. He worked for the Springfield Water Dept in various capacities. After his retirement, Dominic, an avid golfer, worked doing the job he loved best as greens keeper at Veteran’s Golf Course. He could be found in the early hours most mornings checking the course to be sure it was in perfect condition. He was a long time member of the former St. Mary’s Parish in Ludlow and more recently Christ the King Church.
Dominic is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Rita (Noel) DeCaro; 2 sons Anthony Decaro (Nancy) and Dominic Decaro (Donna) both of Ludlow and a daughter Joanne Decaro (Steven Wiecorek) of Granby. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Joseph, Alissa, Daniel, Jeffrey, Eric and Carl as well as 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Frank, Louis and Joseph DeCaro and his sisters Angelina LeCuyer and Catherine Cassotta.
Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, March 8, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
Funeral services for Dominic will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, MA. Rites of Committal with Military Honors will follow in Island Pond Cemetery, Center St., Ludlow, MA.
Dominic’s family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01114
